GST Invoice Generator

Make a clean GST tax invoice with CGST/SGST or IGST, totals and amount in words, then print or save it as a PDF.

Runs in your browser – nothing you type is sent anywhere.

This free invoice generator helps freelancers and small businesses in India make a neat GST tax invoice in a few minutes. Fill in the form, check the totals and save it as a PDF. Everything stays in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

How to use the invoice generator

  1. Fill in the seller details: business name, address and GSTIN. You can also add a logo, phone number and email.
  2. Fill in the buyer details: name and address, plus the buyer’s GSTIN if they have one.
  3. Enter the invoice number, invoice date, due date and the place of supply (state).
  4. Add one row per item with a description, HSN/SAC code, quantity, rate and GST %. Add or remove rows as needed, and enter a discount if you give one.
  5. Choose Same state (CGST + SGST) or IGST. The totals and the amount in words (Rupees … Only) update as you type.
  6. Add notes and your bank or UPI details so the buyer knows how to pay.
  7. Press Print and pick Save as PDF in your browser’s print dialog to get a PDF file.

Your details are saved in this browser, so the next invoice starts with your seller information already filled in. Use New invoice to clear the form for a fresh bill.

What a GST tax invoice must show

The contents of a tax invoice are set by Rule 46 of the CGST Rules on the CBIC website. The full rule has more cases, but the main fields are these:

FieldWhat to enter
Supplier detailsYour name, address and GSTIN
Invoice numberA consecutive serial number of up to 16 characters, unique for the financial year. Letters, numbers, hyphen (-) and slash (/) are allowed, e.g. INV/26-27/014
Date of issueThe invoice date
Recipient detailsName, address and GSTIN of a registered buyer. For an unregistered buyer, the rule asks for the name, address and state in some cases, such as supplies worth ₹50,000 or more
Goods or servicesDescription, HSN code (goods) or SAC (services), quantity and unit
ValuesTotal value, and the taxable value after any discount
TaxRate and amount of central tax, State tax or integrated tax (and cess, if any)
Place of supplyThe state, which decides whether CGST + SGST or IGST applies
SignatureSignature or digital signature of the supplier or an authorised person

Rule 46 also covers less common items, such as reverse-charge supplies and a separate delivery address. Read the rule itself if your business has those cases.

CGST + SGST or IGST?

It depends on where the supply is made. When the seller and the place of supply are in the same state, the GST is split into two equal halves: CGST for the Centre and SGST for the state. When they are in different states, the whole GST is charged as IGST.

For example, a designer in Puducherry bills a client in Chennai ₹20,000 for a website at 18% GST. That is an inter-state supply, so the invoice shows IGST of ₹3,600 and a total of ₹23,600. If the client were also in Puducherry, the same ₹3,600 would appear as CGST ₹1,800 plus SGST ₹1,800. (Puducherry is a Union territory with its own legislature, so it uses SGST, not UTGST.)

Tips for a clean invoice

  • Keep one numbering series per financial year, for example INV/26-27/001, and never reuse a number.
  • Check the buyer’s GSTIN carefully. A wrong GSTIN can stop the buyer from claiming input tax credit.
  • Use the right HSN or SAC code. The number of digits you must show depends on your turnover, so check the current CBIC notification.
  • State the payment terms in the notes, such as the due date and your UPI ID or bank account.
  • Keep a copy of every PDF you send. The browser saves only the current invoice, not a history.

Watch out: Businesses above the turnover limit notified for e-invoicing must report their B2B invoices to the Invoice Registration Portal and get an IRN and QR code. This invoice generator makes a normal printable invoice and does not connect to the GST portal. Ask your tax adviser which rules apply to you.

Frequently asked questions

Is this invoice generator free, and is my data private?

Yes, it is free. The invoice is built and saved in your own browser, so your business and client details are not uploaded to a server.

Can I use it if I am not registered for GST?

A person who is not registered for GST cannot charge GST and should not issue a tax invoice. You can still use the layout for a simple bill by setting the GST % to 0 and leaving out the GSTIN, but check the correct format with your tax adviser.

Why does the invoice show the amount in words?

Writing the total in words (for example, Rupees Twenty-Three Thousand Six Hundred Only) makes the amount harder to misread or alter. It is a common practice on Indian invoices.

Will my invoice be there tomorrow?

Yes, in the same browser on the same device, unless you clear the browser’s site data. Save each invoice as a PDF to keep a permanent copy.
